Trail Walking Tour to Mt. Takao（private tour guide 6 / 8 hours）

Mt. Takao is one of the best places to visit if you have one free day in Tokyo.

Mt. Takao is well known as the sacred place because there is an ancient Buddhist temple, Yakuo-in, in the mountain. This temple was established in 744 and is now one of the three head temples of the Shingon-shu Chisan-ha Sect in Buddhism.
Another attractive aspect of this mountain is that there is a variety of trails for hikers and walkers. There are ten trails in the mountain. We can see green forests, mountain streams and falls, beautiful flowers, animals, insects, etc. on the way to the top. If you are strong enough to walk on trails for 2 hours, you can go up from the foot to the top of the mountain. If you are not confident in your strength, you can use a cable car or a chair lift.
Mt. Takao is located in one hour distance from Shinjuku (central area of Tokyo) by train.
It is three starred destination in the Michelin Green Guide.
There are also natural hot springs near the train station.

Trail walking tour to Mt. Takao using public transportations
We will take a train from Shinjuku to Takaosan-guchi for an hour. After five minute walk from Takaosan-guchi, we will arrive at Kiyotaki Cable car and Chair lift station. We can go up to the middle of the mountain by cable car, chair lift or walk. Another 40 minute walk from the middle of the mountain, we will arrive at the top of Mt. Takao.
On the way to the top or back from the top to the middle, you can drop in at Yakuo-in, the old Buddhist temple. In the temple area, you may find the statues of  Tengu, long-nosed demon-like beings, believed to dwell on sacred mountains acting as the messengers of the deities and buddhas to chastise evildoers and protect the good.
In Mt. Takao, there are many cozy restaurants which serve traditional Japanese foods including tasty soba (buckwheat) noodles with Japanese yam.
You can also enjoy natural hot springs near Takaosan-guchi Station.
